Rainbow trout and Steelhead are considered to be the same species, but rainbows are the landlocked riverine cousin. They are darkly speckled and have lustrous flanks that can shine with reds and oranges in sunlight. Rainbows are piscivorous, but they are also happy to eat insects, fish eggs, crayfish and small crustaceans plus they will scavenge left overs from other fish.
