Andros Island Lodge

Our Lodge on Andros Island is the perfect base to experience the best Fly-Fishing that Andros Island has to offer.

Pete Andros Bonefish2 WebAndros Island is revered as one of the most exceptional bone fishing destinations in the World. With easy access from anywhere in North America, Andros is the ideal destination to begin your flats fishing career or for the well seasoned to pursue double digit bonefish, permit and 100 lb. tarpon. Andros has something for every skill level.

Fly-fishing for Bonefish was pioneered on North Andros as far back as 1948 at the legendary Bang Bang Club. The Bang Bang Club was a favorite hideaway for many of the rich and famous of the 50’s and 60’s including Al Capone, legendary fly fishing pioneer Lee Wulff, living legend Joan Wulff, baseball and fly fishing legend Ted Williams and many more. Although the Bang Bang Club is no longer in operation, North Andros continues to be one of the best bonefish destinations in the world. Such iconic flats areas as the Middle Bight, North Bight, Red Bay, the West Side and the Joulter’s surround the North Island. Regardless of the direction of the prevailing winds, there are always sheltered flats and creeks (interior flats) that can provide a calm fly fishing experience.

Andros is the largest of the 26 inhabited islands within the Bahamas. Yet it is one of the most sparsely populated. It is an archipelago within the larger Bahamas archipelago. The island is dissected by hundreds of creeks and waterways surrounded by hundreds of miles of fishable flats that are home to bonefish, permit and tarpon.

Accommodation

Exceptional Value, Quality and Comfort

We are excited to introduce you to this exceptional lodge property in North Andros.

When we went to Andros to assess the fishing and lodges we went under cover. We didn’t let the lodges or the guides know that we were there to review their properties and skills. As always, we brought our spouses to get their opinions of both the guides and lodges. Their experience is often different than ours. It’s safe to say that not all lodges are a like.

All of the lodges that we stayed at had been recommended to us. But only one stood out as exceptional for all of the right reasons.

  • Kalik WebAffordable, exceptional value.

The Lodge is located on a secluded oceanside flat in the Cargill Creek area of North Andros. Only a half an hour south of the Fresh Creek airport. We can arrange to have you picked up at the airport or we can arrange a rental vehicle for the length of your stay.

Once in Cargill Creek we will pick you up at the dock and deliver you to our secluded exclusive boat access only lodge on the Atlantic Ocean side.

Blue Cottage Andros2 WebThe lodge has 4 beautifully renovated cabanas overlooking the beach and your exclusive flat. Each Bahamian style cabana is well appointed and features 2 Queen sized beds that can accommodate 2 anglers or a couple. Each cabana includes a full 4-piece bathroom, vaulted dark wood ceilings, dark wood flooring, new silent air conditioning through out and a deck overlooking the eastern flats where you can watch the sunrise or settle in for a couple of Kalik’s after a day of fishing.

Fishing

Les Andros Bonefish1.1 WebThe lodge literally has a flat right out front. The 4-mile long flat is a great spot to hunt large bonefish during the incoming tide. Cast to bonefish in sight of your personal Cabana and in sight of your next cold Kalik. What a way to celebrate.

Although there are many Do-It-Yourself flats locations on the island, it takes time to get your bearings and understand which tides work best for each location. If your intent is DIY we will help to advise where and when to fish. If you prefer to combine DIY with some guided fly fishing we will be more than happy to make all of the arrangements for you.

We recommend fishing with guides to get the full experience of the fishing on North Andros. Our lodge is ideally situated close to the North and Middle Bights and for those runs to the famous West Side. The guides can pick you up at our dock. No need to travel to meet them somewhere else on the island. However, if weather dictates or in conversation with the guide you decide to fish Fresh Creek, Staniard Creek, Stafford Creek, The Joulters or Red Bay they will trailer their flats boats to make it happen.

The bonefishing on North Andros is nothing short of exceptional! Its not uncommon to cast to skinny water tailing fish in the morning, hit wide open sand flats for schools of big bonefish by noon and then spend the afternoon hunting for big singles on the sheltered creek flats. At the end of the day you may find yourself positioned to ambush fish moving of the flats or mangroves on the falling tide. The variety of ecosystems and flats in each given area is mind blowing.

Although Andros is primarily known as a bonefishing destination it also a great permit and tarpon fishery. Tarpon in the 100+ lb. range frequent the flats of the North Bight, Middle Bight and West Side from May through October. Coincidentally this is also the best time of year to hunt for Permit. Preparation and a great guide are keys to success.
