Fly Fishing on Endangered River in BC

Posted on Posted in Fish Tales, Uncategorised

While fly fishing in BC has never seen greater growth and popularity, there are areas in the province that are experiencing the dangers of over harvesting.

Trout Unlimited Okanagan has banded together in an effort to create awareness around over harvesting and illegal poaching on the Kettle River.

River levels are at record lows putting extra pressure on the survival rates of the trout, but over fishing is contributing to a vast decline in the natural populations that still exist.

In some cases poachers are to blame, in others it’s simply ignorance of the laws governing the catch and release policies of the river.

Here’s a short film by TU Okanagan and the group of fishing conservationists trying to reverse the effects of over fishing on the Kettle.
